Lola Sue Larkin
was born on January 20, 2007. We first met up with this beautiful lady at the Atlanta Humane Society. We had been there three times before looking for our perfect first dog. She looked drugged up and very pathetic in the kennel. The shelter has no idea her background but had suspicion that she had been abused because of her behavior. We fell in love immediately. We were told that she was a terrier mix, and would get to be about 10-15 pounds. We thought her beyond perfect for a medium sized apartment, that she would share with an older brother.
We brought her home and her and Earl got along right away. It was a perfect match. She was a little more than we had bargained for. We soon found out that she had dystycia, which means her eye lashes grow on the inside of her eyes, causing immense pain, and blurry vision. The day after we took her to the doggy eye doctor she fell off the bed and tore her back tendon, which made us have to carry her up and down the 4 flights of stairs for her to go to the bathroom for almost a month. HA! Her behavior around other dogs, and strangers showed true to the fact her previous life probably was not pleasant.

We soon learned to take care of Lola's eyes, and her leg healed nicely. She moved to another apartment and adjusted easily. Then came her moment of heroism. An early morning soon after Jacob had left for work, a man tried to break into our apartment with Lola, Earl, and myself still inside. Lola came through and bit down hard the man's arm. She refused to let go until the man was yelling (swear words), and there was blood around the door frame. The man ended up running off, but Lola is a great protector. Ever since that day Lola and my relationship has been a lot deeper.
She is now a gorgeous 40 pound small lab. We tell people we got the house with the fenced in lawn for Lola. She had outgrown apartment life :) Lola is a great big sister to Lucie, and has really taken her under her wing. Lola follows the rules and is a great listener. Again we are so lucky for her to be in our lives. Stay tuned for the last two babies. Simon and Lucie to come later this week.
