Waiting until the last minute......
I always try to rationalize my need to do this to myself. My rationalization this time is when I get home, on Sunday, I will crash in bed, and then wake up to go into school. My summer is officially over. I will have no time to get things in order, clean. I would feel so unhappy to come home and have a dirty house. This way I have every dish clean, a clean bed to jump into, a clean closet, clean floors, just everything will be wonderful.
The dogs will be boarded at Jacob's work. I dropped them off earlier this evening. The cats will have free reign of the dinning room, kitchen, and living room. With Greg I wanted to make sure there was nothing he could get into to hurt himself. The clean was a little bit for him too.
But I can rest up for a few minutes and feel good about it. I am super excited to get going. I love road trips, and we will be seeing lots of friends and family. Jacob and I will have some time to just be with each other also. Happy for that!
Well I hope I can get my act together and finish the little bit of packing I have left. Then it is off to bed for me, as I am taking the first shift driving tomorrow morning.

My Second New Year
I have been setting up my classroom all week. I have been getting to school around 9 and staying until 3ish. Every morning I go in with a to do list, and work on getting through my ADD tendencies and stay on task, then leave with a shopping list, and a plan for the next day. I had some lofty goals at the beginning of the week (one being only going in Mon-Wed), but small set backs will have me retuning yet again tomorrow (Fri). However, when I do leave my room tomorrow afternoon, at what I hope is early afternoon, it will have me in a really good place. I have almost all of my bulletin boards done, the room set up, my desk organized, all Teacher Editions found, and the big closets cleaned and organized.
We are scheduled to have 5 straight days of pre-planning. Normally we have a schedule of when the meetings are, and a general idea of how much time we will be allowed to work in our classrooms. But we haven't been given an agenda yet for that week. That scares me a little bit. Last year we had 4 days of pre-planning and a total of 6 hours scheduled for work in our classrooms. We have 5 days, but that doesn't mean we won't have meetings all day long.
My biggest fear was that I would leave for Florida with a lot to do in my classroom. I wouldn't be able to enjoy my last little bit of vacation, because I would be thinking about the work I had to do when I got back. But I feel really good about how I will leave my classroom. As for some new (some old) goals I guess I should post them; it might help me keep them:
**In no particular order
1. Keep current on lesson plans
2. Work out at least 4 times a week
3. Keep current on grading
4. Stay on top of my classroom management (Larkinville)
5. Leave work by 4 everyday but Tues
6. Keep an open mind while dealing with my team
7. Represent my grade level well at Leadership meetings
8. Stay positive and only allow one gripe a day
Okay that is a lot! I like goals, and have high expectations. I have read a blog of a friend who updates her readers on her goals periodically. I will try to do that but no promises.
Jacob and I leave for 5 days in Florida on Wed. I can't wait. I will try to write before we leave, but no promises.

Life is full of surprises!
- Volunteer at 9 o'clock church
- Go to church at 11
- Drive up to open water at Red Top Mountain
- Open water swim for at least an hour
- Run errands
- Get home and finish household chores
Well we thought we were all ready but while we were volunteering I realized that we had not brought any kind of food/nutrients for this swim. So we had a couple of options, and then we looked outside and it looked like rain was on its way. I didn't want to drive all the way to open swim and have it rain, or have my mouth keep me from swimming (I haven't tried swimming since the grafting). We decided we would take the time and go out to eat, and run errands. Then Jacob could do homework and I could work on things I need to get done around the house.
We drove to Best Buy as we had to buy a phone charger. We were too early, and had 15 minutes to kill. We were right by a PetSmart and I remembered we needed to replace Ginny's leash after the dogs had chewed it. So we went in to get a leash. We got the leash, and as we were walking out the door an organization was setting up all of these kitties. Well of course we had to stop. We always look, sometimes donate, and walk away. But there were these three kittens. All black, but had just a few different markings. They were so, so small. The foster mom talked to us about them, and how they were found, and then stuck in a clinic, and they were not sure how many shots they had, and the sadness just continued. Jacob and I pretty much fell in love with the same one, his name was Beckham. We oooohhhhhed, and aaaawwwwwed and Jacob says "you know adding a cat is like nothing" I told him we had to go, and we walked out.
On our way to Best Buy I turn to Jacob and say "Well his name would have to be Greg". Jacob loved it. He said it fit him perfectly. We walked out of Best Buy, and back to PetSmart. We loved him so much.
After all the paperwork, the interview, and me shedding tears talking about Ashlee (my first cat in college) we were approved! We quickly got the necessities, a collar, a name tag, a dish, and some kitty food.
And now we have had a 5th member of the zoo for almost 7 hours. He is fitting in well. He has quite a fun personality, and seems to like Simon. He is not so keen on the dogs yet, but he has never been around dogs before, so it is only a matter of time. Click here to see other pics of the newest surprise ;)

Can't keep me down
I took another vicodin about 5pm. That was the 6 hour mark. I had eaten a little bit of soup, and a bagel thin. I decided to finish this carton of blueberries we had in the fridge. Jacob left for class a little after 5, after making sure over and over again I was okay. Then at about 5:30 I started sweating. I have super thin blood, I never sweat. I was in the basement, that is already chilly, and I had a fan blowing to keep air circulating. I was sweating like a mad woman. I couldn't make any sense of anything. I started stripping off my clothes and I just kept sweating. I mean sweat dripping off my head, my knee pits were dripping, my elbow pits were dripping. I knew somewhere in my head I need to get upstairs. I grabbed my phone and started making my way to the stairs. When I got up I completely blacked out. I know the basement, so I knew where I was, but I didn't know where I was.
I fell twice trying to get to stairs. At this point all three dogs were licking me like crazy, I was literally dripping. I can not express that enough. I still had my phone in my hand, and I was really trying to decide if I was going to call 911. I could hear Ginny whining, and she was really close to me. Lola was right next to me, almost trying to help me gain some stability. I finally felt the stairs and made it up. I started regaining my sight towards the top of the stairs, and so I thought, I just need to get to bed, and lay down. I blacked out and fell again on the hardwood in the living room at some point. I awoke by the fireplace, and got back up. I was so dizzy and could barely crawl to the bed. I thought who to call??? My friend Krista's name stuck out. If she was home (she travels a lot) she would be the closest. I called her, and she said I wasn't making any sense. I was slurring my words, but I got out sick, and something is wrong. She instructed me to unlock the front door, and lay down, she would be over in 10 minutes.
I gained enough strength to start towards the front door. I was going back and forth between seeing a little bit of light, and seeing nothing. Still sweating, I started feeling like couldn't breath, or swallow. I unlocked the dead bolt, and when I reached for the door knob....I knew I was going to puke. I started running towards our bathroom (I had to get through the living room, through the bedroom (which has new tan carpet) and then to the toilet). I didn't make it....I upchucked bright blue (hence those blueberries) all over the new carpet, the walls, the doors, the bookcase. And I will just say it wasn't once.
But believe it or not, when it was all done I felt so much better. I called Jacob and he wanted to leave class, but I told him Krista was coming over, and I was seriously feeling so much better. I called Krista, and she said she was going to stop for some soda, and crackers. I laid down on the bathroom floor and realized I was literally covered in blue. I slowly started to clean until Krista arrived, and yelled at me for cleaning.
Needless to say I felt so much better after that whole episode. Krista hung out for a while, and it was good to catch up, even under the circumstances. Jacob and I are both so thankful for having good friends who will drop everything, and come to help.
By 8 p.m. I was already laughing about it with my in-laws, and feeling so much better. After talking to a couple of people I am pretty sure it was the vicodin that did that. Either I overdosed, or it was just too high of a dosage at one time. I seriously have never been that sick, and it came out of no where. I am so thankful for Krista. I could have done it on my own, but it is so much easier when you have a friend.
I wanted to be up and around to run yesterday morning, but after reading some more post-op literature it said to rest for 24 hours. So I hung out in bed all morning, and relaxed. But yesterday afternoon I was back to normal, well almost. I have some bruising on the inside of my throat, so my vocal cords are horse. But I am used to losing my voice so that is no biggy. There is also some swelling, but as my friend Sara said, you have to really know me to see it. I lucked out this time, or at least so far.
I went school shopping with Sara yesterday afternoon, and went to an adoption event in the evening. I also got in a 2 mile run last night. I actually had one of the best 2 mile run I have had in a long time.
This morning I got up and ran 6 miles. It was a rough 6 miles, but it felt so great. Well I will just have to remember no Vicodin next time, and I have to brave it through the first 24 hours. But even this will not keep me down!

What did I get myself into???
The periodontist talked with me about what needed to happen. "Grafting" is taking some of my natural tissue and surgically attaching it to the areas that need new tissue. The goal is so that no one even notices. I asked a lot of questions, we went through financing, and decided it would be best for me to do this over the summer.
Well as my summer vacation is coming to a quick end, I found my notes on this doc, and made an appointment. I had read all of the literature, and felt I had a really good idea of what this grafting involved.
I had my appointment this morning. Now everything went amazing, and I would recommend Dr. Brunner to anyone. He has worked with me, and my other docs, as I am one who comes with a lot of doctor baggage. But this whole thing is a lot more than I had bargained for. I will not go into too much detail as it could be graphic, but I have about 20 stitches in two different spots within my mouth.
This big thing is the pain....almost unbearable. I have some vicodin, but it barely lasts 4 hours. They have this cast-like clay over the stitching, and the swelling has gone down a lot. But tomorrow is what I can't wait to see. Because of my anemia, I might bruise...and a lot. The doctor said I could possibly have a black eye, bruises around my cheek, and mouth, and all the way down my neck. I am hoping for the best. I am hoping I have a higher tolerance to pain than the nurse thinks, and I can be running my normal 6 miles tomorrow morning. I will not be doing anything tonight, but I lucked out as it is storming, so I don't feel so bad.
I will go in for a post-op check up in 10 days, and hope everything will be good. We will have to schedule my next appointment and it looks like it should be around my winter break. Right now I am already dreading the next appointment.
Everything else is pretty okay. Not too much going on.

FOUR YEARS!
Four years today Jacob and I had possibly the best wedding day (I might be a little biased) I am shocked that it has been four years. I love him more today than I did when I met him at age 11. A friend from high school, Nicky, just recently wrote a post about what she admires about her husband. This got me thinking. Jacob and I don't celebrate "days". We do little for birthdays, normally nothing for things like Valentines Day, or anniversaries. But I thought, he deserves something. So I wrote him a quick blob about why I love him. Most people do not get to see the Jacob I do everyday. Jacob is shy, reserved, and hard to get to know. There are few people who truly know him. I thought I would post on here to shout to the world why I just might have the best guy out there!
Top TEN Reasons
I LOVE YOU
LOYALTY – I have put you through more than most strong men could stand. You have never wavered and you have stayed with me through the most difficult of times. You have seen me at my moodiest, my fattest, and my sickest. You were the rock that I needed, and leaned on. Your loyalty to me means more than you will ever be able to comprehend.
PROVIDER – You are a provider to our animals and me. You work at a job that you don’t like so that we can live with no wants. You continue to serve our country for the freedoms that so many take for granted. You are going to school so that you will have a career that will take care of us in the future. I never have to worry being taken care of with you.
COMMITMENT – Everything you do, you do with full out commitment. Be it school, the Army, our marriage, Get Fit Atlanta, or your fish, you fully commit yourself. If you say you will do something, you do it. You are dependable as a husband. I feel as though I have a true partner in life.
RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD – Your relationship with our Heavenly Father is just there. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone, you just believe, because you believe. I love that about you. You are secure in understanding God’s plans, and you are happy to follow wherever that might lead. Your ability to sit back, and allow God to have the reins is something I wish I had.
INTELLEGENT – You are a very intelligent person. I am in awe of what I learn from you daily. Your researching skills, and your ability to learn new information is awesome. You use the trait of commitment to make sure you know as much as possible before making a decision. I can rest on the idea that any decision you make comes from an intelligent and researched thought process. You have become an amazing handy man around the house, and I know I can go to you with anything and you will help me with it.
CONFIDENCE – You know who you are. You are so secure in your ability to do anything. I guess you could say you have a lot of self-confidence. This comes out in many different ways. The most impressive is how you allow me, a strong willed, stubborn, woman come and drive a strong household. You do not need to be an overbearing man, because you know you are the man of the house. You feel confident in yourself to help me with the household chores. You are a husband willing to make this marriage a partnership.
STRENGTH – This can be taken both literally and figuratively. You are a very strong individual. You have survived war; you work, and take classes. You have the strength to take on all of that, and still have time in your life for me. You are emotionally strong when I feel like my world is slowly falling apart. You allow me to voice my concerns, sometimes yell, and just cry. I am able to sit in your presence and bask in your strength.
SENSE OF HUMOR – I love the way you laugh at shows like Family Guy, and Scrubs. You laugh at other’s misfortunes on America’s Funniest Videos. We can laugh at each other, and find humor is places others can’t. You can almost always make me laugh when I really need it.
ADVENTUROUS – You are always up for some fun. You are an Airborne Soldier that should prove well enough how adventurous you are. You love adrenaline rushes, and you never pass on trying something new. That can look like swing dancing, or new restaurants. You are a great partner in crime.
CONTENTMENT – You are so secure in where we are right now. You are happy with what we have, and enjoy where we are in life. You are who you are, and you are okay with that. I love that about you.
** These are in no particular order. What I see in you is what every girl dreams they will marry someday. I love you so much, and I hope that these first four years are just a sweet taste to what we have coming. You are an amazing man, and I am so lucky that you have allowed me into your heart.
HAPPY FOURTH ANNIVERSARY!
I LOVE YOU!

The Haps of Late
Wednesday - Jacob had the day off so we hung out most of the day. We did a quick 6 miles in the morning, and then swam in the pool. We went to see the movie Eclipse. Jacob really liked it. I thought it was decent. I can't think of anything else, so must not have been a major day.
Thursday - I had a ridiculously productive day. I had mowed the grass, vacuumed, swept, and mopped all by 9:30 in the morning. Then we had a group bike ride at 6:30. I have a road bike (Alice) and we have had many good bike rides together. As I tell you this please keep in mind that my shoes are clipped onto my bike. If I can't unclip fast enough, or correctly, my body is connect to the bike. When we got to the turn around point, me and my partner Lavonne, stopped to refuel (eat some nutrients). When we went to take off and I just fell over. For no reason. HA! I fell in grass so it was no big deal. But then at about mile 10 we were stopping to cross the road and Lavonne went to hold onto a post. Well she missed the post and she fell over. I started laughing (in good humor of course) and as I was laughing I went toppling over. Except this time I landed hard on my hip and shoulder and in gravel so my knee was pretty messed up. Alice was a little messed up in the handle bars, and seat. But we finished riding, blood trickling down my leg. HA! Then, on Thursdays, we are suppose to brick. Brick means you bike for an hour and then run for 20 minutes. So I get back and rack my bike, and figure....sure why not, and off I take on foot.
Friday - I woke up to go for my morning 2 mile run, and I couldn't move my right side. Literally I thought a truck had hit me during the night. After about an hour I finally forced myself out of bed, only to find a very swollen and bruised right hip, and shoulder. GGRRR!! I was so mad. I had thought the worst of the fall had been a scrapped knee, but wow! I really did a great job on this one. So most of Friday was me trying to stay as still as possible. Pain killers are blood thinners, and the last thing I want to do is thin my blood, so I just stayed as still as possible. I skipped swim practice, which was disappointing to me.
Saturday - Early morning we do long group runs. And it was 11 miles. I was a little (okay a LOT) worried about this stupid injury. I decided to run with the group that is slower than my normal group, and it was a great decision. Starting out was really hard. My hip was pushing my pain tolerance. But I got in a groove and had the best 11 mile run I have ever had. It was amazing. I felt great afterwards. For the rest of the day Jacob and I just worked around the house and did a few little things here and there. Then we finished yesterday off with purchasing a new living room set. We have been looking at this set, and we finally made a decision. This is a much decision than it seems. We are have decided to move the dogs to the basement for a majority of the time. That is where our family room is, so we spend a lot of time down there, but now they will stay down there when we are gone. They will not be allowed on the new furniture and I am excited to have a nice living room area! We will put up new pictures after everything is complete.
Today - Jacob and I have just hung around the house. We are doing a whole lot of nothing. Later we will meet our friends the Burdens downtown to watch the fireworks. I love the fireworks, and have been looking forward to them for a while! I hope everyone is having a great 4th of July and celebrate America's birthday!!!
